Marcia at Lowe’s

Marcia came to CIS with impeccable qualifications: she had 10 years of experience operating a 30-line telephone. But instead of seeing Marcia’s skill set, employers saw obstacles, like the Braille and speech access software that MArcia needed to perform her job. Lowe’s, however, saw poitential. The installed touch pads on their phones, changed their software so that Marcia’s Job Access with Speech (JAWS) program worked properly, and let CIS translate company documents into Braille. The investment in Marcia paid off: she has been incredibly successful at her job for the past three years, and has acted as a mentor to other individuals who are visually impaired. Maarcia’s story highlights the successes that are possible when companies like Lowe’s join with CIS for a creative employment solution – successes and other opportunities that CIS strives to foster for each individual.
